This is a wonderful example of a full-figure, horse and jockey weathervane in the pose of a steeplechase jumper. The vane is 32" long and 20 1/2" tall on the museum stand.

The horse is in copper with a cast lead head; the jockey is also cast in lead.

Note the extremely fine detail in the full-figure horse from the open mouth, flaring nostrils, flowing mane and saddlery to the streaming tail.

The pose is of a steeplechase jumper and was common to all the better weathervane manufacturers in the late 19th and early 20th century. The maker is unknown but a photo of a very similar, if not the same, form is in "A Gallery of American Weathervanes and Whirligigs by Robert Bishop and Patricia Coblentz, E.P. Dutton, New York, 1981, p. 76.

The condition is excellent with no losses and no repairs. The original surface has weathered to a pleasing verdigris retaining a significant amount of the original gilding. The museum stand is contemporary.
