This folk art weathervane is a variation on the classic horse and rider theme. The artist has added a large flag over a small house or school and a tall pole at the front. It measures 44 1/2" long by 30 3/4" at its tallest point, on the stand.
The horse and rider, in silhouette, are in wood with sheet iron cladding secured with rivets. The flag, building, pole and frame are all iron. It sits on a contemporary museum stand.
This is a unique and pleasing design and shows the skills of the maker. Likely first quarter of the 20th Century.
Condition is very good with no losses and no repairs. The sheet iron was painted black and there is some surface rust consistent with age and use.
