This appears to be a folk copy of a sheet metal weathervane manufactured in the same form around the turn of the 20th Century. The horse and jockey form was popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

This example measures 45" long by 20" tall and is made from 1/16" sheet iron. The horse and jockey are made up of 8 separate pieces of sheet iron overlapped and riveted together. The back or left side uses iron rod for reinforcement. The work is nicely done.

The vane is painted red and it appears to be the original surface. There is some crazing and paint loss mostly on the back or left side.

The decorative wall mount is contemporary and is included with your purchase.
