This is a delightful painted scene of a prosperous village with houses, shops, courthouse (with American flag), people and livestock on the inside bottom of a 19th Century box. The "bird's eye" scene is done in earth tones in the 19th Century Folk Art style but is likely 20th Century. It is signed Weston Bean on the lower right. The ox/tray measures 25 1/2" by 19" by 4 1/2" deep. The scene measures 16" by 11 1/2".
We were quite taken with this piece and feel it would make an excellent serving piece with the addition of glass or plexiglass to protect the art.
