This is a wonderfully diminutive chest we found in Maine. It is painted in red with black and gold pin striping on the top conforming to broad chamfers which form a raised panel that holds the initials "WMS" in a stylized hand.
The chest is just 20" wide by 10" deep and 9 1/2" tall. It is in pine with nailed construction and brass hinges and fancy brass handles.
The condition is good with only normal abrasion to the edges of the original surface. There are no repairs and no overpainting. The mortise lock has been removed. There is evidence of a hasp lock being added at some time which had subsequently been removed.
We are always excited to find pieces of this size and age with their original surface.
