This is a great example of a 19th Century child's step-back cupboard. The wood is pine with honest construction. The upper case has a glazed door with ship-lap construction and ogee molded trim and one fixed shelf. The lower case has a ship-lap frame and panel door with the same molded trim.
The dimensions are a diminutive 28 1/4" tall by 13 3/4" wide and 16" deep. A great size to keep those precious tee items for a doll's tea party.
The case has a stylized cupid's bow cutout on the two sides. The surface is an original brown stain. The pull knobs are porcelain. The back is marked "GP & Co Columbus" and retains a partial paper label. The cut nails and tapered screws date this piece between 1850 and 1900. The condition is "as made" with no losses and no repairs.
This is truly a sweet little chest and it is almost impossible to find them in this condition with the original surface.
