Rarely do we find 19th Century country farm tables like this in untouched condition and with a single board top with no splits.
It is also a terrific size - just 5' long, 27 1/2" deep and standing 28 1/2" tall. The base is 56" long by 24 1/4" deep, allowing a nice overhang for the top. This size will fit nicely into most modern kitchens or could be used for an office/computer table.
The tabletop, legs and frame are all pine. The single drawer is also pine with a poplar bottom and marbleized porcelain knobs. The top has breadboard ends which are attached with spline tenons and nailed through the ends. This construction technique is likely the reason the top has not split, a rarity with one board tops of this width. The slightly tapered legs are attached with pegged mortise and tenon joints. The drawer uses nailed construction.
The top has a wonderfully scrubbed surface which you expect with kitchen work tables of this age. The base retains its original untouched oiled surface. There is a repair to the drawer bottom to adjust for normal shrinkage. Otherwise the table is in as-made condition.
This is a wonderfully honest country kitchen work table that hasn't been fooled with.
