Vintage Royal Copley ceramic bird figurine. This colorful bird perched upon a small stump has no chips or cracks. It has all over crazing of the glaze which adds to its vintage charm. The figurine measures 6 1/4" tall.
This particular bird figurine was made in different color variations. According to Mike Schneider's book, Animal Figures, many Royal Copley pieces were airbrushed as is the case with this figurine. Also, many were not stamped but only marked with a foil label, which this bird no longer has.
Royal Copley was Spaulding China Company's most popular line. Spaulding China began in the early 1940's in Ohio and remained in business until approximately 1961. The Royal Copley line was in production from 1948 – 1957.
