The Effanbee Doll Company was founded in New York City in 1912 taking the name from the initials of the founders last names - Fleischaker and Baum. They created the first realistically proportioned child doll, and the first hard rubber, drink and wet doll. Sold in 1946 and then resold many times to various owners, the company was purchased in 2002 by the Tonner Doll Company who continue to make the modern Effanbee dolls.
