Visual Feast! ….
With its potent mix of Pre-Columbian and modernist attributes, this imposing pin pendant is a mid-century offering from the award-winning, Peruvian silver house Welsch—the Lima retailer that throughout its long history has supported many talented, indigenous artisans, including Laffi and Chavez. The work is composed of a deeply convex, urn-shaped plaque in sterling silver, whose surface has been darkly patinated. Surmounted to the blackened ground is an arrangement of mythic forms—among them two-headed serpents and birds—that have been skillfully hand cut in .925 silver and 14K gold to form an Inca mythological fetish or tribal facemask. A stunning work of wearable art, its commanding design and workmanship also will display beautifully in any vintage Peruvian, Mexican, or other Latin American silver collection.
HALLMARKS: 925, 18K, PERU, Welsch llama logo. DIMENSIONS: 2” x 1-3/8”. WEIGHT: 19.1 grams. CONDITION: Excellent to superior vintage condition, fitted with a secure rollover-locking clasp. There is also a generous, hidden ring bail for wearing as a neckpiece. A 23" silver bead chain will be included.
