Solar Power! …
Potent in its iconic, mid-century motif, evocative of the brutalist sculpture of Pal Kepenyes, and utterly avant-garde in its unique eccentricity, this large sunburst brooch makes a major statement in both design and craftsmanship. Forged entirely in golden brass, the artisanal work is composed of a multitude of spiky "rays" emanating from a ring of fused, dripped metal. The robust projections have been hammered flat with rounded tips, and boast an animated arrangement of lengths and configurations. But it is the centerpiece of the brooch that truly startles the eye and imagination. Recessed within a raw-edged, circular void, the brut surface of a molten, brass disk (surmounted to the back) has been hand-coated with an "icy," teal verdigris patina—a striking effect in stark contrast to the fiery theme of a sunburst. It all adds up to an audacious, art-to-wear adornment, riveting in its appeal.
