This is a magnificent early Mexican silver brooch dating to the 1940s. Very much in the style of Valentin Vidaurreta or William Spratling, this pin features beautiful repoussé work with fluid lines and a large carved amethyst tulip atop the silver vase. The pin is only signed Silver Mexico – the earliest of the Mexican silver marks – which tells us it predates 1948. The tulip is well carved with nice light and dark variations in the stone. The vase has its original patina – warm and glowing. Large and substantial, this beauty measures 3 inches long and 2 ¼ inches wide. The amethyst tulip itself measures 1 1/8 inch tall and three quarters of an inch wide. It weighs a hefty 31.6g. The condition is excellent – no dents or dings to the silver and the clasp works well. Mexican silver of this quality and vintage is scarce and hard to find. Really a special and wonderful piece from one of the early Silver Masters of Mexico. $325.00
