This splendidly opulent pendant was designed by McClelland Barclay for the Fall 1941 collection and manufactured by Rice-Weiner. It is featured in AMERICAN COSTUME JEWELRY, VOL. 2, by the Brunialtis, on page 42. Dramatically Art Deco in style, it features a round sculpted gold plated medallion with an openwork center, atop which is a pave rhinestone overlay, set in milgrained rhodium plated metal. Three important faux Emerald rhinestones – one rectangular and two teardrop shaped – set open backed – occupy the elevated high relief center of the pendant. Spectacularly Stunning! As many of you know, McClelland Barclay was a noted designer of the early 20th century, well-known for both his graphic art and jewelry designs. The reverse of the medallion is signed McClelland Barclay. The medallion itself measures 2 1/8 inches in diameter and approximately a half inch in height. The double linked gold tone chain, from which it is suspended, which I don't believe is original to the piece, measures 20 inches long, in total. When clasped, the necklace measures 12 1/2 inches from the top. The condition is very good – all stones are present and only one clear rhinestone seems slightly darkened. The gold tone is shiny and bright, though there is some surface scratching, when viewed through a 10X loop. Considering its 80+ years, it is in remarkable shape. You'll be admired with this special and rare necklace – a real treasure. $175.00
