This is a spectacular brooch by the noted Norwegian enamelist and silversmith Oystein Balle. The abstract biomorphic design is executed in repousse sterling silver. Vivid vitreous enamel fills the flat spaces, creating a magnificent stained-glass effect. Marvelous! The colors in the brooch are lemon yellow, sky blue, cobalt blue, white, emerald green, and tangerine. The reverse is signed Balle 925 S on a rectangular cartouche. I think it likely dates to the 1960s. The brooch measures one and three-quarter inches wide, 1 3/8 inches long, and closes with a 'C' clasp. It weighs 13.87g.
