This is a magnificent old – likely pre-1948 – Mexican Sterling silver necklace with each link fully covered with a Mosaico Azteca stone inlay of lapis, malachite, and azurite. Each link also has a geometric design of silver inlay. This stunner is fully signed Taxco Gro (for the state of Guerrero ) EDP 925 Hecho en Mexico and also marked Sterling on two separate links. There is no Eagle assay mark and that, as well as the style of the affixed hook and ring clasp, suggests to me an early date of creation. EDP is a listed silver artist in The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks by Bille Hougart on page 83. The necklace consists of 10 smaller crescent links, five on each side, descending to one large link at the center. It fits beautifully around the neck with the center link highlighting the hollow of the throat – Gorgeous! The necklace measures 16 inches long, 1 inch wide at the center link, and weighs 33.7g. The condition is excellent – no cracked or missing stones – I have left it unpolished with its original patina, but it can be polished at the request of the buyer. Hand wrought Mexican silver of this vintage is becoming so hard to find. You’ll treasure this distinctive beauty. $225.00
