This is a wonderful pair of early Mexican silver dangle earrings done in the ‘Shadowbox’ style. These beauties consist of an ornate scrolled open work cut out design, set atop a recessed darkly oxidized flat back. The bright silver design against the black background makes for a dramatic statement. Shadowbox style items are hard to find – seems they were made in the 1940s and 1950s, but very little was created after that. Both earrings are signed but there is wear to the markings; it is only by reading them together that one can discern the marks. It reads Hecho en Mexico DF (for Mexico City) RRR in a circle. They are also signed Sterling. I see no Eagle mark. RRR is a listed silver artist in The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks by Bille Hougart on page 93. The earrings are screw back and measure one and three-quarter inches long and 7/8 of an inch wide. The condition is excellent. An extremely good looking distinctive pair – you’ll be pleased. Well priced. $63.00
