Adorable and whimsical, this figural donkey ring has great engraved detail. Eyes, mouth, ears, fur, as well as a saddle, highlighted by an oxidized shadowbox, make this a miniature work of folk art. The reverse is signed Danny’s Hecho en Mexico (partially eroded) in a circle with 925 at its center. There is also an Eagle assay mark numbered 148, which is seen on other Danny’s items. Danny’s is a listed silversmith in The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks by Bille Hougart on page 23. I would guess this dates to the 1950s/1960s. The ring is a size 7, but the band is adjustable, and, with gentle squeezing, it would fit a somewhat smaller or larger finger. The face of the ring is one and a half inches wide and three quarters of an inch long. The condition is excellent. You’ll smile just wearing this cute little burro – quite a conversation piece. $52.00
