This is a stunning '50s silk taffeta, mid-century dress, modeled in the New Look style of the mid-1950s. Made by Anne Fogarty, famous as a designer and as a book author.
With a V-neck in both the front and the back, this dress has a massive bow in the back, with its streamers flowing down to 1 inch from the bottom hem.
This dress has the Mrs. Maisel look, and would look stunning as your Little Black Dress. It also has POCKETS (hidden in the seam on either side). You can carry your cell phone in one and your lipstick in the other. It has a lot of volume in the skirt, and you could wear a swishy petticoat underneath.
Measurements:
Waist: 26"
Length (from shoulder to hem): 40.5"
Chest: 33" also with darts
17.5" pit to pit
14" zipper, with hook and eye at the top.

This dress is in tip top condition, and ready to wear. It does need a top stitch on the left side of the bow, to fully fasten it to the dress.

Anne Fogarty is not well-remembered today, but she was an excellent designer, and Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute has several of her dresses. She was a special Coty award for "prettiest dresses".
The following information is from Wikipedia:
"Anne Fogarty (February 2, 1919 – January 15, 1980) was an American fashion designer, active 1940–80, who was noted for her understated, ladylike designs that were accessible to American women on a limited income.[1] She started out as a model in New York in 1939, working for Harvey Berin on Seventh Avenue, before studying fashion design. She eventually secured a full-time design job in 1948, and became well-known for full-skirted designs with fitted bodices, inspired by Dior's New Look.
In 1959, Fogarty published a style manual, Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife, which emphasized femininity, neatness, and always being suitably dressed as desirable qualities.[2] Wife Dressing was rediscovered in the early 21st century, and has become a key resource for designers and fashion historians looking to explore the 1950s ideology of ultra-feminine dressing."
