“Tom and Linda Platt met in 1969 when both were students at Pratt Institute. They married and have been working together ever since. Both worked from home, making the costumes for animated figures in the Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue Christmas windows in New York for several years before designing their first collection of women’s clothing in the late 1970s.”

This example of an early 1980s dress designed and made under their label for Bergdorf Goodman is simple yet elegant. The color of the marvelous silk material is best described as a Blush Nude, which has been so very popular in the last few years! There is definitely a touch of Blush Pink in this soft silk. There are three layers of very fine sheer silk chiffon over the main body of the dress (made from a more weighty and thicker silk, possibly silk crepe de chine), two of which lean more toward Blush tones and the third matches the body of the dress which does have bust darts. These layers of silk chiffon give the dress a bit of an asymmetrical handkerchief hemline although the basic dress under these layers is actually more of a shift style with a straight hemline. The long sleeves are made from the three layers of silk chiffon. The body of the sleeve is the made from the most pink silk of the three. I am in hopes that the sleeves can be adequately viewed and displayed in the photos and hopefully give a better idea than my description can convey. The neckline is rounded and simple with a lovely matching nude silk satin band trim. This same type of trim is used at the bottom hemline. And, speaking of the bottom hemline, there is a small side slit on the right side of the dress. There is a well hidden zipper opening at the back of the dress with a metal hook and eye at the top of the zipper. All inner seams are beautifully finished (overlocked) with no raw edges visible and there are small shoulder pads sewn into each shoulder. This dress is just lovely and even though vintage from the early 80s this style is timeless!
Condition: Very Good
There are a number of very small and faint pulls in the delicate silk chiffon layered material. One is near the bottom right point of chiffon on the back of the dress and one near the center of the left back sleeve. On the front of the dress is the most noticeable one (and it’s not glaring by any means). This one is near the center on the top chiffon layer and it has created 4 very tiny pin size holes. There are several very small pulls in the silk chiffon on the front. These mentioned areas in the silk are so minimal that they will not show up well in photos and most likely will not be noticed when the dress is being worn and appear more as a raised thread instead of a pull.
