Covered in yellow silk Brown Eyed Susans, this vintage early 1960s pillbox hat is pretty for Spring and Summer wear. The flowers are slightly shaded for realism with lots of green leaves scattered amongst the many flowers. The centers of the flowers are brown cotton surrounded by small yellow stamens. The hat is built upon a green stiffened netting and the part that surrounds the head is wired. Lots of hand stitches used to secure the foliage to this form are visible and can be seen in the photos of the inside of the hat. There is an inner green grosgrain ribbon hatband and small faux tortoiseshell plastic half combs on each side of the inner hat to help to secure the hat to the wearer’s head. The petals on the flowers are rather “here and there” and I think this was the way it was from the time it was made to resemble the look of flowers in nature. If you strive for total perfection in placement, I suppose you could manipulate the petals to your own desires, but I have chosen to leave them just as found. This charming vintage 60s Arnold Gottlieb pillbox hat is light and airy and if you like shades of Sunflower Yellow, you’ll love it!
Condition: Very Good
As mentioned before, some of the petals may want for some slight tweaking (I like them just the way they are, but that’s a matter of personal preference, of course). Some of the petals do have some fraying, as is often the case with vintage silk blossoms. Overall this vintage hat is in very clean condition.
