Cashmere coats are often made in the wrap or swing style, but not this one! It has so much detail, it's hard to know where to start. Well, I guess it would be wise to begin with the lovely ivory cashmere material it's made from....always in vogue and a great neutral color that will go with anything. The coat is an A-Line and has two generous pleats on the front of the coat....one on each side. There is a delightful half belt which has non functional brass buckles just above the natual waist on each side of the coat and another buckle at the center of the back of the belt.....very stylish! The collar is notched with topstitching that extends down the lapels of the coat to the bottom hemline. Five buttons which have the appearance of marbleized Lucite fasten the front of the garment. The buttonholes are nicely finished. The sleeves are long and have a decorative button (nonfunctional) at each cuff. There are slit pockets, one on each side of the front of the coat. The inside is completely lined with ivory satin. This coat is fitted with many seams for a structured look.....not boxy, but fitted and the cashmere used in this coat is not extremely thick or bundlesome.....very light and comfortable. This is truly a coat which will never go out of style.....it's totally classic!
Condition: Very Good
There is some very slight wear to the cashmere (keep in mind that this coat is almost 50 years old and there will be some vintage wear even in the best of circumstances) in the usual places that these coats show wear....around the bottoms of the cuff openings....but not bad at all and not very noticeable, either. The belt is tacked with a stitch on the back left side, but the stitch that holds the right side up is missing....easy fix! The inside of the coat is extremely clean. A very wearable coat ( you will not be disappointed in this coat!!!) with a touch of Jackie-O apparent with this one.....I can just picture her in this style coat with a brown mink pillbox hat and gloves!
