Most of us have seen photos of Hawaiian ladies dressed in beautiful long traditional dresses and often they will be wearing a hat which is similar to this one in style. This woven natural straw hat has a high crown. The top of the crown is flat and the brim on the narrow side. An attractive wide silk organdy plaid ribbon encircles and covers the sides of the entire crown and is folded at the front in a variation of a bow. The colors of the ribbon seem to fade into each other for a nice soft look ......orange and rose red and a few shades in between. This ribbon is hand tacked to the hat and this can be seen on the photo of the inside of the hat. The hat is unlined as is typical of a straw hat and has no grosgrain ribbon inner hatband. I am saying that this hat is from the 1970's.....it could be from the 1960's. I could find absolutely no information on the label as to when this maker was in business.....wished I could have found something and would, as always, welcome any knowledge of Sonya of Waikiki that anyone may have. This hat is a nicely woven and smart hat with a unique Island style.
Condition: Very Good
There is one small very small dot of a stain on the top of the folded ribbon on the right side. This is a small dark spot about the size of a pinhead and does not show up well in the photographs. It is not very noticeable when looking at the hat, either. Otherwise, this hat appears to have seen very little wear and was most likely purchased as a lovely remembrance of a wonderful trip to those beautiful Hawaiian Islands!
