You often see 2 and 3 strand necklaces, but 5 strands are much harder to find....particularly beautiful Hattie Carnegie pieces! Hattie Carnegie is most particulary known for spectacular beads.....a few stunning necklaces have found their way into my collection and this one is very tempting! This necklace is comprised of faux baroque style pearls, clear faceted crystals and smoky gray faceted aurora borealis crystals and what a marvelous creation they make when all put together! The strands are graduated as well as the beads, which are smaller at the neckline and larger at the front of the piece. Small crystal spacers go between the larger beads. All crystal beads are glass .....faux pearls may be plastic....and, because of this factor this necklace does have a nice heft! The catch is lovely......a large gray glass stone set in silver tone plated metal (most likely rhodium plated). This stone is faceted from beneath to give nice detail and a pleasing play on light. I do hope the photos do justice to this fabulous Hattie C. creation! Stunning!
Condition: Very Good
I'm giving this necklace this condition rating because there are so few issues that can be detected or noted. There are so many crystals....of course, there could be extremely small dings on some, but one would have to look very closely to find them. I have found several very small ones so I will note that here. And, when you have the aurora borealis coating on crystals, there will be some wear which has occurred over the years, but here it is minimal. I have not cleaned these beads, as I leave that to the new owners discretion. For myself and my own personal preference, I wouldn't clean it, so I didn't! The back of the clasp has some slight surface scratches which show up far more prevalent in the photos.....when actually looking at the piece these appear to be ever so slight. The plating is good and in tact. I really wanted to give this necklace an excellent rating because it is so wonderful, but as with many vintage items, there are slight signs of normal wear and I do try to note all.....no matter how inconsequential they are to loveliness of the item!
