Vintage 1970s Hanae Mori Exquisite Red Silk Evening Dress
A beautiful dress designed by one of Japan's most famous designers. As the label states the brilliant red silk print was made in Japan and is of the finest quality. The photos tend to make the dress look orangey...it's RED! The print is floral with various types of flowers---fuchsias and chrysanthemums! The top of the dress is hand smocked and the smocking is lined on the interior with organdy. There is a soft collar which gently drapes and is closed at the neck with silk covered buttons with loops. The sleeves are long and have slight gathers at the wrist. There are small silk covered snaps to close the wrist openings. On each side of the bottom of the skirt there are hand finished slits that make this dress very comfortable to wear. There is much hand finishing on this fabulous evening dress-no raw edges on seams. One of the most elegant women in the world, Grace Kelly was known to have worn Hanae Mori's fashions and after seeing this dress, one could say that it could be fit for a Princess!!!
LABEL: White Label with black Japanese script---Hanae Mori.
There is a smaller label which reads: out cloth 100% silk, Lining,
Made in Japan,
Dry Cleaning Only
CONDITION: Very Good
There are several small spots on the front of the dress, but because of the way the dress drapes some are not noticeable at all----only when the dress is flattened and one purposely looks for the spots can they be seen. I believe these small areas could be removed by a very good professional cleaner. There is one tiny spot on the upper left right under the smocking and again with the print it is not obvious. On the draped collar it appears that someone probably wore a brooch as there are approximately 5 tiny pin holes--not noticeable because of the way the collar drapes. I, also, detected a very slight pull in the silk thread on the front bodice. None of these issues in any way detract from the beauty of this garment. But feel free to ask any further questions concerning condition.
Garment has a size 8 tag and I think that it is a fairly true size 8 as that is my size and this dress would fit me! This dress is a "shift" style so keep in mind it is not a fitted or tailored style. Loose fitting! The smocked yoke is approx. 14 ½" across and the dress laying flat is 44" around.
Bust: 48" + because of the fullness of garment
Outer Sleeve: 25"
Inner Sleeve: 19"
Circumference of Wrist Opening(Measurement Taken with snaps fastened): 7"
Shoulder to Shoulder: 14 ½"
Length From Shoulder to Bottom Hemline: 51"
Total Circumference of Bottom Hemline(keep in mind there are two slits on each side): 42"
