This is a pretty vintage 1960s two piece suit (suit jacket and skirt) made by Monarch from a fabric that was exclusively made by a rather famous fabric manufacturer, Stroock. Stroock was founded by Samuel Stroock in 1866 and first made lap blankets and carriage robes for those who travelled in horse drawn carriages. This fabric manufacturer later became famous for using such luxury materials as Llama, Alpaca and Vicuna in their fabrics. They later referred to themselves as “Creators of America’s Most Distinguished Woolens”. There is no tag in this garment that identifies the exact blend of wool that was used to make this attractive suit, but a burn test does identify the material as wool. The material is woven and is somewhat substantial, but still soft. It resembles mohair quite a bit with a black and white pattern that looks like herringbone. The jacket is a boxy style with a touch of tailoring. There are seams on each side of the front that extend from the bust area downward to the faux pocket detail. The jacket closes at the front with two black metal snaps that are on the inside of the jacket. On the front of the jacket there is a frog style fabric closure and a metal hook closure that cannot be seen. The hook is on the underside of the jacket. The jacket is lined with black silk. The sleeve length is to the mid arm below the elbow but they don’t go to the wrist. These sleeves would look lovely worn with stylish black gloves! There is no padding in the shoulders of the jacket. Perhaps the most luxurious detail of this suit jacket is the shawl style fur collar that I believe is black sheared beaver. The fur is super soft and adds a stunning fashion statement to this suit jacket. The straight skirt is made from the same fabric as the jacket and has a silk slip lining attached at the inner waist. There is a small waist band that has an inner green satin lining. The skirt closes with a metal zipper on the left side of the skirt. There is a black metal snap and also a silver tone metal hook with bar clasp on the waistband. This vintage ladies suit was most likely quite expensive when first purchased at an exclusive ladies shop, La Vogue of Newport News, Virginia.

Condition: Very Good
This suit is in very nice condition and really has no issues to speak of. The lush black fur is soft and is not shedding. The suit material is in clean and has been stored well. Because of the nature of the woven wool fabric, there may some very minor areas of piling but these are few and far between and I believe will not be noticed.
