This darling little early 1960s young girl’s hat was made under the Mr. John Juniorette label. With it’s turned up brim, this hat is made from rich burgundy cotton velvet. The crown is round and there is a burgundy grosgrain ribbon hatband that surrounds the base of the crown. This ribbon hatband ends at the back of the hat with a tied knot and two long ribbon streamers that cascade down the back. The outer brim is wired. The crown is lined with black faille material and there is an inner burgundy grosgrain ribbon sweatband. The black elastic cord that can be seen on the hat was originally used to secure the hat to the girl’s head. It no longer has any spring to the elastic and may need to be replaced if that security is needed to hold the hat in place. This vintage hat would have been just the kind of hat that would have been worn by a child to church when she wore her “Sunday Best” with gloves, Mary Jane shoes and white anklet socks. Times have changed but the style of this Mr. John Juniorette hat is still just as adorable today as the day it was made.
Condition: Very Good
There are some areas on the inner brim that appear as slight wrinkles in the velvet material. On the underside of the brim, as you can see, there are some gathers in the material that most likely occurred when the hat was made and the material was fitted around the brim foundation. And, an area near the label shows that the inner ribbon sweatband has come unattached, probably unglued. None of these noted condition issues are that noticeable when the hat is being worn. I have lightened some of the photographs in order that these areas can be more clearly seen.
