This pretty vintage 1940s Asian inspired bed jacket is made from salmon colored rayon satin material that has a lovely machine stitched design that includes flowers and butterflies. The collar is Mandarin style and the long sleeves are slightly bell shaped at the bottom. The shoulders are padded and the bed jacket is completely lined with white rayon. There are pockets on each side of the front opening. There are no buttons on this jacket to close the front opening. But there are satin strings that are attached to the neckline from two woven material medallions. This vintage bed jacket comes to the hip area in length.
This jacket does have some issues both on the outside and the inside. Some of the design machine stitching which emulates embroidery is missing. On the front right side there is a green leaf midway that has missing stitches and the green butterfly at the top of the jacket has some damaged stitches. Near the opening on the right lower side, there is a small area that shows some slight fading. On the back of the jacket there are three flowers outlined in yellow thread that each have a thread petal that is missing. A green leaf on the lower right side is missing threads. In the same area of this leaf near the bottom, there are some squiggly yellow thread designs that are missing. In the upper center of the back of the jacket there is a green butterfly and the antenna is partially there, but some of the green stitching is missing. Midway down on the right sleeve there are missing yellow threads. On the inside of the jacket, there is a hole in the lining material on the inner right side. I have provided a good photo of this issue. On the left inner side of the lining there are several areas of faint brown staining. The inside issues, of course, are not noticeable when the jacket is being worn. The missing stitches are definitely missing, but don’t in anyway compromise the structure of the bed jacket and may not be readily noticeable when being worn as there are quite a lot of other stitches to be noticed.
Although it does sound like a lot of issues with this vintage bed jacket, it is still very pretty and very wearable. In fact, it would make a great jacket to wear out for any special dressy occasion with black slacks or a black dress or skirt! I don’t think it’s only for boudoir wear at all!
This bed jacket has recently been professionally dry cleaned.
