Here is a vintage 1950s black leather motorcycle biker jacket made by Blatt of Chicago that is beyond way cool! The jacket has all the classic 50s style as you can see from the photos. I purchased this jacket and a pair of leather biker pants(the matching pants are listed separately #1358) from a man who said he used to race motorcycles. He had held on to them for many years and finally decided to part with his jacket and pants as he was moving. I was lucky enough to acquire them both. His initials are even on the lower back of the jacket done with plated round metal studs…..”DEN”! On the leather snap straps on the shoulders there are two metal plated stars. The sleeves have zippers at the bottoms. On the front of the jacket there are three diagonal zippered pockets each of which have four small round metal studs at each end of the zipper. There is a snap flap pocket on the left lower side of the jacket. The jacket closes at the front with a heavy duty metal zipper that has the original leather tie pull attached to the zipper. I can’t read the name on the zipper but I think it is probably original to the jacket. All of the other zippers have the brand name, Conmar and appear to be also original. The pockets are flannel lined. The notched collar has two metal snaps on the flaps. There is an attached belt at the bottom of the jacket with a plated metal buckle. The jacket is lined with a quilted material that might have at one time been a more vibrant red shade. It’s now coral and has a layer of wool under the quilted material. This fabulous vintage 1950s Blatt motorcycle jacket is looks so very similar to the jacket that Marlon Brando wore in the 1953 film, The Wild One. The style of his jacket is almost identical to this one offered here for sale. For the collector of motorcycle memorabilia, this vintage black leather jacket will be a treasure!
Condition: Very Good
For the age of this jacket and the fact that it was worn and well loved is amazing. I have had the jacket professionally cleaned and conditioned by a skilled leather professional. All of the zippers work and nothing is missing. There are scuffs on the leather, but no holes in the leather. There is a small light blue mark(looks like it might be paint) on the right front side of the jacket. As you can see from the photo of the lining, it is soiled from wear and at the neckline there is a worn place that shows the exposed wool layer. The man who restored the jacket wanted to repair this with a patch, but I decided to leave it as found. The inner quilted lining at the wrist opening also shows wear. The left wrist opening has a place that the quilted material is missing and the wool layer can be seen. The belt at the bottom of the jacket has wear to the leather and this can be seen in the photos. The leather has a wonderful patina that is often desirable with these vintage biker jackets as it seems to show the “character” of the jacket. The metal studs also show some wear and some of the plating is missing on most. This is not surprising at all in light of the fact that this jacket was worn by someone who raced bikes. The leather is substantial and of good quality and that’s why it has held up so well over the decades.
