Vintage 1960s Wool Knit Coat and Dress Ensemble Made in Italy by Giancarlo by Agatha - image 1 of 15

When you see “Made in Italy” on a label, quality and that style that is so unique to the Italian designers is always anticipated. This lovely vintage 1960s wool knit coat and dress ensemble exudes that famous Italian quality and style. Made by Giancarlo by Agatha, the sheath dress has light blue, white and deep purple horizontal stripes. The collar is round and stands up just a tiny bit…..not flat like a crew neckline. The dress is sleeveless and has bust darts. The dress curves in at the waist and does cling to the wearer’s curves in a very flattering way so when the coat is removed, I think the striped dress is a bit of an unexpected surprise! There is a hidden blue nylon zipper that closes the back of the dress and a metal hook and eye at the back of the collar. All inner seams in the dress are serge seams and are nicely finished with no raw edges present.

The deep purple wool knit coat is is full length and beautifully tailored with Princess seams on the front. The back has a defined band at the waist that dips to a “V” in the center. The sleeves are long and fitted. The coat is double breasted and closes with 10 cool gold tone round metal buttons. There is a collar and two snap closures sewn at the center top of the coat that keep the coat closed at the neckline. On each side of the coat there are flap pockets detailed with a shiny gold tone metal button. The pockets do not open under the flap, but instead they are slit pockets on the side of the coat. There is a 12 1/2” vent at the center back of the coat. The coat is not lined but all seams are well finished (serge seams). The coat and dress both have a nice weight to them. They feel like quality and look amazing when being worn!

*****The wool material that this coat and dress are made from is not scratchy and is soft and flexible, so it should be comfortable to wear.*****

Condition: Very Good

This ensemble is wool and it does have a few small areas of moth damage. On the coat there is a small hole on the outer collar. I have provided a photo of this area. On the bottom of the right sleeve near the wrist opening, there is a moth hole. The good thing about the wool material is that unless it is stretched open, the moth damage is not glaringly visible. On the dress there is a moth bite on the the right side of the collar band. It’s in the area where the material is doubled and is not extremely visible unless looking for it. On the inner right side of the upper shoulder area, there are 2 moth holes. These can be seen more on the inner dress than on the outer material. One of the places in wool material just barely shows on the outer material and then only if you are looking for it. I have shown these areas in a photo. The dress and coat have been professionally dry cleaned.

Size: 10

Although this dress and coat have a Size 10 tag sewn into the garments, they are not Size 10 by today’s standards. I believe this ensemble will fit more closely to a Size 8 figure. Please refer to the Measurements given below to be sure that your purchase fits properly. There is some slight give to the knit material, but keep in mind that the dress and coat are somewhat fitted.
