This lovely Edwardian cameo brooch is not a large brooch, but it is a very nicely carved piece. The lady is high relief and is quite attractive and not crudely carved as some that you often see. Her hair is detailed with three blossoms , curls and a tendril that drapes upon her neckline. Her dress is Roman style. The front of the cameo appears almost completely white and the back is a very pale pink. When held to the light, the shell that surrounds the lady is even more pink and there are no cracks. The frame for this cameo is etched 10KT gold and is marked on the catch. The catch is an early lever safety catch, probably handmade.
Condition: Very Good
The ring that allowed this brooch to be worn as a pendant, has been removed and there is only a remnant left. As mentioned previously in the description of this antique cameo brooch, the carved cameo is in excellent condition and has no cracks or damage. The catch is an old style safety catch and has never been replaced with a modern style safety catch, but is fairly secure. This cameo is in original condition, with the exception of the loss of the pendant ring.
There is also a maker’s mark on the back of the brooch which looks like a small Thistle. And, at some time in it’s journey, this cameo brooch was most likely pawned as it does have a number etched in the gold not eh back of the brooch near the Thistle maker’s mark.
