The detailing on this pretty vintage 1940s Cardinal Red 2pc. ladies suit styled by Jolee are super. The fitted jacket has double princess seams on each side of the front. There’s a wide notched collar and shoulder pads in each shoulder. The sleeves are long. The jacket closes at the front with four round cloth covered buttons and the button holes are nicely finished. On each side of the front of the jacket at the hip area the detailing emulates flap pockets with two small round cloth covered buttons. There actually are no functional pockets on this jacket. On the back of the jacket there is a center seam with two other seams on the left and right of this center seam giving the jacket a very streamlined appearance. At the bottom of the back of the jacket there are three welted faux pleats with small round cloth covered buttons at the top of each. The jacket is fully lined with red rayon crepe material.
As for the straight skirt there is a side metal zipper closure with a clear (yellowed) plastic button at the waist band. There is a small pleat at the bottom of the front of the skirt. The skirt is not lined.
Condition: Very Good
I have provided a good number of photos of this suit in hopes of showing it’s attributes as well as the issues that I’m about to describe. On the front bottom right side of the jacket there are some areas of moth damage to the gabardine wool fabric. With the exception of one of these areas, the moth damage is limited to nibbles or tracks in the fabric that do not make a real hole. The area that is a small round hole is on the top flap detailing near the two round buttons. On the inner right sleeve just under the arm pit area, there is a small round moth hole in the gabardine material. At the bottom of the left sleeve at the wrist there is a very tiny hole in the material and a little wear that is not very noticeable except when looking for this issue. On the back of the jacket left side under the collar, there is a hole in the fabric that cannot be seen unless the collar is lifted up. A small hole is also present in the area of the left shoulder. There is a small hole that can be seen in the area of the welted faux pleats on the bottom of the back of the jacket. The inner crepe lining in the jacket has faded somewhat and now has a tinge of orange in the red, but is clean and unstained. There are two small holes in the rayon crepe lining material on the right side of the inside of the jacket.
On the skirt, on the left side panel closest to the zipper in the lower part of the skirt there is moth damage in the form of one fairly noticeable hole, a smaller one and some moth tracks in the material.
Although these issues may sound substantial, most people would never notice them when this lovely suit is being worn. The suit has recently been professionally dry cleaned and is ready to wear.
