Never worn, this attractive Sou’wester style pumpkin colored wool felt hat still has the original Montaldo’s paper hang tag attached. Frank Olive created hats under a number of labels and this fine vintage 1960s hat has one of his most desirable labels……”From My Private Collection Frank Olive.” With it’s upswept brim and large bow attached, this hat makes a rather dramatic statement when being worn. The crown is rounded and there is no wire in the brim. The outer brim is nicely bound. A strip of pumpkin wool felt serves as an outer hat band encircling the base of the crown. The hat is unlined and there is bright pink inner grosgrain ribbon sweatband. Montaldo’s in Richmond, Virginia was always known for premier quality ladies attire and accessories and this outstanding vintage Frank Olive hat from the 1960s is a wonderful example of the fine merchandise that was sold at this well known store.
Condition: Very Good
Although this lovely deadstock hat was obviously never worn, looking very closely on the underside of the hat, there are several very faint moth bites in the wool. Not detectable on the outer hat, these small areas are on each side of the underside of the brim and are so minor that they don’t show up in the photographs and will certainly not be visible when the hat is being worn. There is one other small bite that is on the outer wool hatband near the back of the hat. This area will also be difficult to detect even though it is on the outer hat.

Attached is the original paper hang tag from Montaldo’s showing that the cost for this hat in the 1960s was $139.00 and was first reduced to $92.00 and then finally it sold for $69.00.
