Here is a gorgeous late 1950s early 1960s black Broadtail Lamb fur jacket designed by Mouratidis Furs, Washington D. C. Michael Mouratidis was a renowned furrier who first had his salon in Washington, D. C. and later in San Antonio, Texas. He was the fur designer for Balenciaga Paris and known for his exquisite fur designs. He passed away at the age of 81 years of age on January 7, 2002. In his obituary, he was said to be “The fur designer of Washington, D. C. and San Antonio”. His furs commanded high prices and don’t often come up for sale on the secondary market. This particular jacket has bell sleeves and closes just under the brown mink collar with one round faceted black plastic button. There are slit pockets on each side of the front of the jacket. The jacket is completely lined in black silk with black velvet detailing including two small bows on each side of the inside of the jacket. And, as is customary in a fine fur coat, the original owner’s initials, JBT, are sewn into the right side of the silk lining. The Broadtail Lamb fur gives a beautiful pattern to a very simple and classic style jacket that most likely would have been considered for dressy evening wear.
Condition: Very Good
There is some very minor wear on this jacket at the bottom the right cuff area. This is not extremely noticeable unless you are really looking for it. There is some wear on the inner back of the collar area that may be seen in the photo of the Designer’s label. This cannot be seen from the outside when the coat is being worn. And, there is a tiny bit of wear on the top and bottom of the button hole that has come from the button being fastened and unfastened. This is also very minor and not a glaring issue especially when he button is fastened. The fur is lovely and looks vibrant and is soft and supple and not stiff. The inner coat is clean and shows no issues.
