Inspired by the 13th century Northern Rose Window in the Chartres Cathedral in France, this silk twill scarf has a more literal theme than it’s inspiration. Rose Windows in Gothic churches refer to panes of glass that radiate outwards in a circular pattern much like the form of a Rose and most often tell a Biblical story. This scarf portrays a Rose Window with panes of Roses, Butterflies and even a Ladybug or two. Set against a black background the vibrant colors create a stunning contrast and the design is incredibly intricate. The hem is machine rolled and stitched. This is truly a beautiful silk scarf!
These types of windows are also called Catherine Windows named for Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Saint Catherine was supposed to be executed on a spiked wheel, thus the wheel shape of these windows came to be known as Catherine Windows.
