This is truly an amazing 1960s feather hat! The gorgeous feathers are in rich shades of brown and rust with a few iridescent black feathers mixed in for a bit of dramatic detail. And if that’s not enough, there are a few white and black feathers, too. The crown is flattened but because of the way the feathers have been placed on the crown, it has a slightly puffy appearance. The feathers seem to drape and dangle (only attached at the crown) over a wide gold satin hatband. When looking at the very top of the crown, notice how strategically the feathers are arranged. The wired brim curves downward and is again covered with an attractive swirl of feathers. I believe the feathers are Rooster feathers and they have a lovely sheen as can be seen in the photographs. The body of this bold and striking hat is light brown wool felt. The hat is unlined and has a matching light brown grosgrain inner hatband (sweatband). This fine feathered vintage 1960s hat is in a word, “Spectacular”!
