As bright as a Buttercup, this vintage 1950s yellow quilted lounging jacket was made by Tommies and styled by Harry Berger. This jacket is swing style and has a Peter Pan collar and a front yoke top with cord trim around the yoke. The jacket closes with three round white plastic buttons. The sleeves are long and there’s a nice little cord trim that gives the appearance of a cuff when there actually isn’t any. There are two large patch pockets on each side of the front of the jacket. The jacket is made from bright yellow quilted acetate and completely lined in yellow nylon material. Not excessively heavy and not thin weight either, but just right for Springtime weather when nights are still a bit chilly. For that matter, this is even a nice cover up for cooler air-conditioned evenings in the Summer, too!
On the tag, this jacket is stamped as an “Irregular” garment. I have looked all over to find why this jacket was sold as an “Irregular” and when I turned up the collar on the back side I noticed that the seam on the collar does not match up with the back seam on the jacket. I wondered if this might have been why it was classified as “Irregular”.
Condition: Very Good
Although this lounge jacket does have some areas of slight soiling it almost appears more to be like what would have occurred from “shop wear”. This jacket has seen little wear and looks like it hasn’t been washed very often. It still has a “new” feel to the material. There is some soiling especially on the collar. It’s not on the inner collar area as you might find from neck soiling, but instead on the top of the collar along the seam. This soiling is more noticeable on the back than on the front. On the lower left side of the hem area there is a very faint brownish spot that’s barely noticeable unless really looking for it. The inside is very clean and shows little to no wear at all. A gentle hand wash and air dry may take all of these slight areas of soiling away and even if it doesn’t, this great vintage jacket looks perfectly acceptable for any type of lounge wear.
