Totally feminine and flowing, this ruffled soft Aqua (could also be described as Seafoam) long evening dress was made under the Victor Costa label in the 70s. The neckline is a dramatic focal point of this dress and is a low cut V-neck with a collar that’s surrounded by soft chiffon ruffles. There are three round cloth covered buttons with cloth loops that fasten the front of the dress. The sheer sleeves are long and slightly gathered at the cuffs for a little fullness and fasten at the wrists with hidden metal snaps. There is elastic in the waist area and there’s a metal hook and eye closure at the front of the waist. . The polyester chiffon skirt of the dress has a wide ruffle at the hemline. The bodice of the dress is lined in matching pale Aqua polyester material and there’s an attached long slip under the sheer shirt made from the same material. The slip liner has a slit in the front to allow for more ease of movement. The dress is belted with a wide soft Aqua satin ribbon belt and there are belt loops on each side of the waist to hold the ribbon belt securely in place. There are small shoulder pads in each shoulder that I think might have been added by the previous owner as the pads have a Velcro strip on them but there is no Velcro in the shoulder area where the pads can attach.
When you think of a dress to wear to a Spring or Summer Garden Party, this dress would definitely fit the bill. Paired with a gorgeous floral wide brim hat, you are ready for that event!
Condition: Very Good
This dress has an issue that I have chosen to leave as found. At the front of the dress there is an opening just below the hook and eye and the elasticized waist. There is a tear in the material that is under this opening, but because of the way the dress is made to close by lapping over this area, it can only be seen when the dress is unopened. The tear is in the material, itself, and not in a seam, so I wasn’t sure how it could best be repaired. If I were going to keep this dress and wear it, I wouldn’t do anything with this area since it cannot be seen at all when properly fastened and I don’t believe it will give you any problem. I suspect the previous owner chose to do the same thing for the very same reason. I have included a photo of this area. The rest of this dress appears to be in very clean condition with just a very slight bit of soiling on the very small areas of the bottom hemline. This can mostly be seen on the inside of the hemline and not on the outside of the dress. This is very minimal.
