This Eric Javits woven natural woven straw hat is not one of his packable or “Squishee” designs but instead a structured hat with a high crown and wired turned up brim. The woven cotton wide outer hatband has the look of linen. The colors of the hatband are light and dark orange with a subtle touch of white. The outer brim is covered with a band of orange grosgrain ribbon and there is an inner orange grosgrain ribbon hatband, too. A black elastic cord is attached to the inner hatband. This attractive late 1980s beach comber style hat made by Eric Javits will be great for any Summer time activity.
Condition: Very Good
On the orange grosgrain ribbon that covers the outer brim, there is some soiling on both sides, both inner and outer. I could see where the outer side may have a bit of soiling from wear, but he inner side would certainly be a bit more difficult to soil from wear. As the inner side of the ribbon shows most of it’s soiling on the part near the wired edge, I thought that it may be coming from the adhesive that was used to secure it to the hat, but that’s just a guess on my part. The soiling on the inner side is less noticeable than the soiling on the outer side. It’s mostly on the sides and not on the front of the hat. There is just a very small bit of soiling on the inner grosgrain sweatband, too.
