Here’s a gorgeous vintage 1960s Leslie James floral bubble toque hat that’s just perfect for anyone who adores green! Usually floral hats are covered in blossoms of pink, red, yellow, purple or even blue but here’s a hat covered in huge Cabbage Roses in shades of green for a wonderful tone on tone effect. The pale green straw base of the hat that surrounds the face has a wide straw bow at the front and the inner support for all of these beautiful flowers is a light green stiffened netting that allows us to view the blossoms from underneath including four interesting little clusters of leaves that can be seen in the photo of the inner hat. Wired silk green leaves that have been nicely shaded to reflect a realistic look are placed among the Roses. On the very tips of some of the leaves there is just the very faintest touch of blush pink. The silk chiffon Roses have rolled edges on all of their petals. Each blossom has a darker green silk center that’s a bit different and looks a little more like a Peony center instead of a Rose center. There is an inner pale green grosgrain ribbon hatband.
Floral Bubble Toque hats from the 60s are statement hats and are not for those who don’t want to be noticed. And this fabulous vintage hat is sure to bring many compliments when being worn. And, even when it’s not being worn it would be beautiful displayed on a pretty hat stand in a boudoir. Very feminine and, oh so lovely!
Condition: Very Good
Some of the silk chiffon roses have slight fraying of the material which is common on these types of vintage blossoms. It does not take away from the hat as it is minimal. And, some of the blossoms are a little compressed from having settled over the years. I have chosen to leave them as found as pressing or steaming would detract from the rolled edges of the Roses in my humble opinion. I would personally rather have the shape of the Roses as they are. They look natural and not perfect as flowers actually are. There is some very faint soiling on the inner grosgrain ribbon hatband (mostly at the front) as often occurs with these style hats that fit closely to the face. But, again, this is minimal and does not detract from this magnificent hat.
