20" American oil cloth dolls. They were obviously made by an extremely talented artist. They are unmarked and unattributed. The pair are purportedly deaccessioned from a museum in California. They have museum accession numbers on their feet. The heads have been given dimension by gathering a wedge of cloth from ear to ear around the top of their heads, very similar to the early Presbyterian cloth dolls. Notice their big oil painted hands with separately stitched fingers. The costumes are beautifully made in the empire style. Their underclothing is lovely with tucks and lace, no shoes. They are surely each one of a kind.
