Dressell and Kister produced high-quality half dolls. They concentrated on subjects based on famous paintings, and well-known personalities. The company hired celebrated sculptor Fillipo Cifariello from Capodimonte/Naples Italy. Cifariello designed many of Dressel's beautiful china ladies. He left Dressel and Kister in 1907 after he murdered his French wife. He was later acquitted for being "total defect of mind". This beautiful head was sculpted during the time period of Cifariello and is probably one of his fine works. (Don't you just love dolls with an interesting back story to share!?) This 11" Pandora style china is a work of art. Notice her tilted head and long graceful neck. Her elaborately molded hair is pulled up in a bun with tendrils surrounding her beautiful face. Her wonderful hair has many finely painted lines indicating brush strokes. She also has a molded chest. She was purchased in Viena at the now-shuttered Viena Doll and Toy Museum. She has an antique cloth body with graceful arms and delicately molded long fingers. What a classic!
Her head has no damage or repairs. the tip of her pointer finger on her right hand was well restored.
She would be so much fun to costume. What a prize she will be! Layaway available.
