Your spoiled doll will look so grand with this antique parasol! Accessories like this make a beautiful doll even more interesting! It will make your alluring doll so stunning. It's an early one with a really unique bakelite handle. The handle is covered in red bakelite and off white bakelite with a ring of bakelite as a handle. The parasol is 17" long and 19" to the end of the round bakelite handle. The pictured doll is 30" tall and the umbrella is the perfect size for her.
Bakelite is a castable, fire-resistant plastic that was invented by Leo Baekeland in 1909. It's light weight made Bakelite a perfect choice for bracelets, rings, pins and other jewelry. It was immensely popular in it's day and very desirable, and costly today. Coco Chanel was one famous designer who created Bakelite jewelry and accessories.
The black fabric is sturdy with small holes from the attic. It looks lovely open, and lovely hanging on your doll's arm. One of the spokes has come loose, but it still opens and closes well. The tip of the off white portion of the bakelite has chipped away (pictured), but it isn't one bit distracting. I've taken all of this into consideration in the price. What a great opportunity to own this rare piece!
