Regency era English sterling silver open salt dish, having rounded rectangular form body, standing on 4 applied figural feet. It is decorated with applied border in egg & dart pattern and applied embossed band around the body, featuring palmette motifs. Interior and border are gilt. On the side, there is an engraved crest, showing Wild Boar over a Crown. Made by Daniel Pontifex, London, 1807.
This spectacular antique salt is 3 1/8" long, 2 1/2" wide, 2 1/8" tall and weighs 129.9 grams or 4.2 ozs Troy.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
