English sterling silver Sheraton style swing handle sugar basket, having its original cobalt blue glass liner by Robert Hennell I with a full set of London Hallmarks for 1794. The engraved handle is also Hallmarked and stays in place, with the rivets being snug and secure. The body has cutwork circular bands and swags as well as a circular cartouche, containing an engraved crowned standing lion surmounting a crown.
This lovely Georgian sugar basket is 5 5/8" tall to the basket rim, 7 3/4" to the top of the handle, 4 3/8" in diameter, the bowl is 3 1/8" deep and the silver weighs 231 grams or 7.4 ozs Troy. The glass insert is free of cracks or chips.
The excellent original condition and crisp details, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
The soft, warm, original antique finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
