English Victorian sterling silver match safe with a coin purse - it is divided into two parts and has two hinged lids. Body is all around decorated with engraved scroll patterns, having a round blank reserve on the front. There is a bail on the side as well. Made by William Neale, Sheffield, 1897.
This unusual incredible safe is 2 3/8" long, 1 3/8" wide, 1/2" thick and weighs 40 grams or 1.29 ozs Troy. It has some wear marks and minor dents.
The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition, having use marks consistent with age and normal use, with no monograms, removals, repairs or modifications, make this an especially attractive offering.
