Thick boards with heavy handmade dovetails at each edge make this old wooden (I believe walnut) chest a stunner. The top board has been replaced at one time and doesn't sit quite flush; this board also has nail holes all around so I believe it was once covered with fabric and the chest was possible used as a sewing box. The chest has four applied feet and measures 8 1/4 inches tall, 14 3/8 inches long, and 9 inches deep. It has a till inside on the right hand side; there is a sliding board cover to the till. The stain has worn differently at areas on the chest and there are a few scuffs and scratches to the wood. The handmade dovetails are very attractive and well done. It is a beautiful piece, circa 1870.
