Beautiful late nineteenth century ebonized gothic revival pole screen with carved tri-foot base. Feet carved with leaf detail which is repeated at the shoulder of the foot. This is surmounted by a turned support into which is inserted a brass pole topped with a round finial. The total height of the piece is 66 1/2".
The screen itself displays a gothic revival top and measures 21/1/2" tall by 16 3/4" wide. The needlepoint consists of various stitching done petit and larger scale stitches. The colors are various shades of green, red, blue, grey and beige. There is a center medallion which is geometric in nature while combining floral elements within it. The border is petit point roses done in various shades of dark off-white. The entire needlepoint is bordered at the frame with green cording which I believe to be original to the piece as it has frayed in certain places( photos 4,5), particularly at the bottom. As the cording is thin, it is not prominent enough to detract from the piece as a whole. The crack to the back of the frame is inconsequential as it is a two piece frame secured by screws. (photo 8).
