A whimsical and naturalistic Majolica ceramic plate of a Begonia Leaf from the 1880's. The green leaf plate measures 8-1/2 inches by 6 inches wide. It is approximately 2 inches tall. The plate seems to have a faded maker's mark on the base but I am unable to identify the maker. The plate design is made with white brown and bright green glazes that are in great condition for their age. The shape of the plate is curvaceous and soft. It's a lovely piece to hold candy or small personal items. A nice addition to any antique ceramic collection. Majolica is a low fire glaze on earthenware pottery: a soft clay body so wear and tear, small nicks and chips to glaze over time is to be expected on these pieces.
