This is a lovely sterling silver and gilt match safe, made by R. Wallace & Sons in Wallingford, Connecticut, circa 1900. It features a beautifully intricate rose bush pattern with a tangled, bramble-like image of interlocking vines. At the center of the tangle on both sides is a diamond-shaped cartouche (one of which has the initials FAB engraved on it). The inside of this match safe is gilt and the whole piece is in excellent condition. It has a strike on the bottom.
This match safe measures 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 1/2" and weighs 1.18 Troy ounces. It is marked "R.W.&S.", with a stag head, "STERLING," and "868."
