This pair of William Seitz sterling silver candelabra's have a great design and are very rare. Steitz was an active artist, teacher and silversmith in New York in the 1970s. He wrote the text book "Silver-smithing" in the US and became known best for this achievement.
These candelabras each have a hand-hammered domed foot supporting two strap branches that seem to swing to either side. These are topped by tapering cylindrical sconces with fixed nozzles. The base is marked with the makers mark W SEITZ, "Sterling", and "Handwrought". Here, at the underside you can see the hand made qualities that are so beautiful about this sterling silver piece; as Steitz would say- it is in the details where you can appreciate true silversmith artistry. Weight: 21 ozt 8 dwts; height 8 3/8 inches, width 7 inches. These would make a lovely addition to any home, both classical and minimal in style.
